Comfort Food Doesn’t Have to be Served at a Table

Everyone loves comfort food. A good plate of spaghetti or meatloaf and mashed potatoes. But when we think comfort food, we think of a weeknight or sunday dinner with family. But we don’t have to be sitting at a table to enjoy the classics, bring the familiarity of comfort food to your next event or cocktail reception.

As if comfort food isn’t enough of a delight for your guests, here are a few tips to wow them even more.

– Deconstruct the meal. A deconstructed meal is essentially taking all of the ingredients and components found in the original (and in this case classic) meal, prepared separately and are brought together for plating and presentation.

– Add some modern to the classic comfort. Why use plain ketchup whenyou can use a chipotle ketchup. Add a little surprise to the traditional.

And to the basics…

– Bite Size. Stick to bite size pieces that don’t require utensils.

– Do the work for them. With stations being so popular, guests are usually expecting to put their own meal together. Why not do the work for them. Serve meals such as tacos already put together with all the fixings.

– Presentation is key! Most people don’t think of meatloaf and mashed potatoes as an elegant meal, but when it looks like a cupcake they do.

When developing our next get together or cocktail reception menu, let’s save the shrimp cocktail or mini quiche for another time, and give our guests some comfort food delights to add a smile to their face!
